urban sprout wants to recruit an intern to work with our team on urban sprout (www.urbansprout.co.za ) and on another project, the Cape Town Green Map (www.capetowngreenmap.co.za).

The Cape Town Green Map is a 2010 Green Goal, part of the greening programme behind the 2010 Soccer World Cup, and a great opportunity on which to work.

This is an exciting chance for someone who wants to gain experience writing for and being involved in website based, media work with a green/environmental leaning.

The internship is for 3-6 months and you will be involved a number of aspects of both website’s daily running, principally sourcing and writing stories. You will also use a content management system to update listings and stories on both sites, and source photos and GPS co-ordinates for the green map.

We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated applicants with a can-do attitude who are not afraid to get stuck in with any kind of work. You will probably have a journalism /media studies qualification and be taking a gap year. You will also be an avid greenie (recycling, supporting local food, and labels like Fairtrade are familiar to you). You will need to have attention to detail, be very computer literate, know your way around the Internet, and not be frightened to find ‘your voice’ when blogging.

The position is part-time, and you will need to fund your airfare to Cape Town as well as your accommodation and living expenses whilst staying in Cape Town. There will be a small monthly stipend.

Activities will include:

Writing articles/blog posts for urban sprout and Cape Town Green Map
Adding listings to the green map
Sourcing photos, GPS co-ordinates for green map
Contacting listings to confirm details if necessary
Keeping on top of local and international green news
Visiting Green Map listings and/or conducting urban sprout blog interviews
Adding listings on urban sprout
Adding events on both urban sprout and the green map
Visiting some of these events
Exhibiting at the natural & organic product exhibition in Feb 2010 at the CTICC

Essential attributes:

Able to write well and, interested in blogging, online media and social networking
Must have a keen interest in green/sustainable living/environment
Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, some experience of photo and graphic manipulation)
Enthusiastic
Dedicated
Able to work independently
(it's a bonus if you like children & plants!)

Desirable attributes

Degree/postgraduate degree/diploma in journalism/media studies or environmental studies
