Field Organizer, Repower@Home (Project of the Alliance for Climate Protection)
Repower@Home seeks to trigger a massive, nationwide change in the energy efficiency of homes across the United States. This is a new project of the Alliance for Climate Protection to show individuals how to make their homes more energy efficient. Critically, we’ll also be providing the organizing tools and organizing context to trigger a domino effect across social networks to drive residential greening.
This fall and winter, we’ll be testing organizing concepts and technology in several locations across the United States. We are looking for field organizers to take charge in these geographic regions and engage Alliance members and other community members on improving home energy efficiency.
A good candidate for this job is a creative organizer (this isn’t plain vanilla field organizing) and has a track record of overcoming obstacles. A demonstrated ability to recruit and engage volunteers is critical.
Field organizers will be responsible for finding volunteers willing to host energy efficiency seminars (similar to house parties), driving member turnout to events, and working with local contractors to provide follow-through services. Field organizers will be expected to utilize traditional and new media organizing strategies to produce multiple house parties simultaneously. Collecting feedback in the field about new online tools and evaluating the success of the seminars will be an important part of the job, and requires a high level of qualitative analysis.
Requirements:
• Candidate must have enthusiasm and an interest in promoting greener communities
• 2+ years community, issue, labor, or political organizing (1 cycle equivalent)
• Must possess strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks
• Willingness to relocate
• Have your own reliable transportation
Helpful:
• New Media experience
• Home Energy efficiency knowledge
